A 70 meter-long underground tunnel linking Tunisia and Libya was recently discovered by Tunisian security forces, General Director of the Tunisian Republican Security Syndicate Mohammed Ali al-Rizki announced on Monday.
“The tunnel is believed to have been excavated by the Muslim Brotherhood elements in Tunisia to facilitate smuggling Tunisian terrorists affiliated to the Islamic State (IS) outside the country to reach the regional hotbeds of conflict and help them get back to their home country,” Rizki said. He also added that there are other several smuggling tunnels that connect borderlines of Tunisia, Libya and Algeria.
During the hearing session before the Tunisian Parliament, Rizki pointed out the involvement of the Muslim Brotherhood in recruiting youth to join ISIS
From 2012 to 2014, 400 spies have entered the Tunisian territory, alongside 72 preachers, nine of whom have been officially prevented from entering the country since the days of President Habib Borguiba, he stated. Rizki further revealed that the documents that contain the information about the non-Tunisians who are prohibited from entering the country were destroyed in 2012.
